Mandatory Border Entry Permit for ‘Cross-Border’ Communities

This update follows a previous communication sent to Members on Tuesday 7 July 2020, regarding the ‘Closure of the New South Wales/ Victorian border.’

If your customer(s) requires their vehicle(s) to be repaired or serviced, and you operate your business from a ‘cross-border community’ – e.g. Albury-Wodonga, Echuca-Moama, Swan Hill, Mildura and towns along the Murray River, a Border Entry Permit MUST be obtained for travel.

Please find the link to the NSW Government Permit landing page as well as the Eligibility Criteria to obtain a Border Entry Permit. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-covid-19-nsw-border-entry-permit

Eligibility for Border Entry Permit:

To be eligible for a permit, you must be one of the following:

a NSW resident returning home
a cross-border resident
a member of parliament or staff member
a consular official
a seasonal worker
a boarding school/university student or staff, or a parent/guardian accompanying a student
a carer for an individual entering NSW
a person providing critical services, including:

○ freight and logistics
○ maintenance and repair of critical infrastructure
○ medical or hospital care
○ mining, agriculture, construction, engineering or manufacturing Commonwealth defence and security services.

You're also eligible for a permit if you are:

an interstate resident transiting through NSW
entering for child access and care arrangements
applying on compassionate grounds (e.g. visiting a terminally ill person). You will need to apply to NSW Health for a Compassionate permit exemption code before applying for your border entry permit.

Note: You won't be eligible for a permit if Victoria's current public health restrictions prevent you from travelling.

For the most up to date information about the current restrictions in Victoria, visit the Department of Health and Human Services website.
