Founded in 1910, MTA NSW is the peak voice for business owners and business principals in the NSW Automotive Industry. The key focus of the Association is always to provide great service to its members in a timely manner.  As part of our service offering we operate a highly effective and proactive Employee Relations Team who provide accurate and timely advice and support services on employment issues, health & safety and employment relations matters to MTA members. 

Reporting to the Employee Relations Manager, you will be the first point of contact for the provision of first level employee relations advise and queries to our SME members via telephone and or email.  Working quickly to develop relationships with our members, you will be comfortable with the current Australian employment legislative framework including the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and the Modern Awards.

You will also have the opportunity to assist in the preparation of MTA publications and participate in presenting training courses to both, MTA members and non-members, so to be successful in this role you will require a level of confidence in public speaking and presentation skills.

The Key Accountabilities include (but not limited):

  • Providing members with verbal and written advice on all aspects of the employment relationship including rates of pay, disciplinary procedures, termination of employment, superannuation, workers' compensation and workplace health and safety.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and modification of manuals, guidelines, policies and products the MTA offers to its members.
  • Advise on compliance with anti-discrimination, workplace bullying, sexual harassment, anti-discrimination and privacy laws.
  • Provide advice on the Fair Work Act and other associated legislation, Awards, employment agreements, and policies.
  • Interpret and recommend the correct course of action on Employment Relations issues.
  • Keep informed about trends, changes to policies and legislation to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  • Have the ability to consider options, research when unsure and provide practical recommendations.
  • Be able to assist with advice, technical assistance and the updating of MTA's payroll system and information portal (both systems are used by members).
  • Help to negotiate settlements for claims received by MTA members from current and ex-employees.

The right person will have:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Employment Law or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in a human resources advice capacity.
  • Sound knowledge of legislative frameworks applicable to employment arrangements.
  • Have strong knowledge of Industrial Relations and Employment Relations policies and legislation.
  • Have exceptional time and resource management skills and be able to work autonomously
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, utilising programs such as Outlook, Word & Excel.
  • Be highly organised with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Be flexible with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry and small business is highly desirable
